Understanding the nature of collective reality is one of my main reasons for being alive on the earth at this time. I know how to create my own individual haven of bliss and beauty, to feel safe and free no matter what, to feel at home wherever I am. I also know how to live in my own world and ignore the world at large, at least the nasty parts.
In the new agey "creating your own reality the way you want it," collective issues are largely disregarded. The idea is that if you follow your heart, what you do will also be best for the collective.
But often, the "heart" that is followed is the small heart of the ego and the rules of the reality box cult that the head part of the person subscribes to.
The then the reality-creating thing takes place within the basic parameters inculcated into the person by around the age of seven. Often by dysfunctional parents, as the gaining of self-knowledge and the pursuit of emotional healing are not priority in a culture that believes knowledge is gained from the external world (not from the self) and emotional healing is accomplished by changing the chemistry of the body through medication (thought content, aspiration, the presence of an inner life is largely ignored).
Humans live in idea-territories, which they create from within like Grandmother Spider spins her web from the inside out. If they are not careful, they become ensnared in their web, unable to move, rather than use it as a working framework-in-progress to support them in organizing data and activities.
As Ingo Swan says, wars are between reality boxes. This is true of disagreements between two people as well as between countries. Whether we want to have one or not, we each have a reality container. Truth is, we generally have several of them for different parts of our life, and smaller ones tucked into larger ones.
Living consciously means knowing what's in your reality container and making choices about what you really want in there and what you don't. It means questioning what's in there and rooting out things you learned by seven and afterwards that you no longer want in there structuring your life. Whatever we are unconscious of, is driving our life.
Nearly everyone thinks they know what is in their containers and they think they chose to put it there but nearly all of it was borrowed from others. This is why self-inquiry is so important. Especially, question what you think does not need questioning! What you don't think needs questioning is invisible to you right now, but if you're open to becoming aware of it, it will emerge bit by bit.
Collective reality is a big container full of smaller containers of many different sizes. The struggle comes when people don't know they're operating from created reality sets that they think are true without question. This is the challenge of collective reality. If we could drop the part about a reality set being the one and only true set, we could live in harmony.
Consider the human body. Each organ and type of cell and structure is a reality grouping, or set, that distinguishes itself from the other. There is muscle tissue, fat tissue, bone marrow, heart cell tissue that is different from other muscle tissue; there are different types of white and red blood cells. There is brain and nervous tissue. What if each type considered itself "right" and the others wrong? To have a well functioning body, each type of system and organ must be unique to its purpose in being what it is.
In collective human reality, it's time to recognize that each grouping, each type of people and nation, have a function in the whole. One is not "right" and the other "wrong." They are all creations. Made up by life. They have all grown up out of life, out of this planet, whatever the past history of things, we are all here now. Just as the body composes a collective reality, humanity is on the verge of becoming a collective reality, too.
Within this collective reality, there is room for enormous differences in creativity and expression. The thing is to find out what you are within the collective and unite with your type or group to contribute to the whole, just as liver cells, heart cells, brain cells, intestinal cells, etc., do for the body.
When the parts of the body war with each other, we call it disease. When the parts of the body work together, we call it health.
The collective body of humanity can be healthy if we admire our differences and support each other rather than calling our group right and the other groups wrong. Imagine the liver telling the heart it should be like it is and do what it does! This is what goes on when we don't know what's in our reality container and when we don't question what we think is beyond question.
